Q: WHAT IS THE SIZE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP?

A: The amount will be decided on an individual basis for each candidate. It will depend on the duration of the program, cost of living and study, and support from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund and/or others. You should normally not have to incur additional student loans during your stay. The amount may thus vary considerably in size from person to person.

Q: WHICH SUBJECTS/FIELD OF STUDY ARE COVERED?

A: Aker Scholarship can be awarded to students of all fields. The most important is that we see the potential in the candidate – both academically and personally – to contribute to society.

Q: DO I HAVE TO WORK FOR AKER ASA AFTER MY STUDIES?

A: There are no strings attached. Some scholars may be offered a job with Aker, but this will be a separate discussion between the candidate and Aker. Our hope is that you will make your scholarship “worth-while” through your contribution to society – both on the professional arena and beyond.

Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM NOT ADMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY?

A: We will assist you in the application process, but it is the university that has the final say. If you are not admitted at your chosen university/program you will unfortunately not receive the scholarship.

Q: CAN I APPLY FOR a SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDIES AT OTHER UNIVERSITIES THAN THOSE LISTED?

A: Unfortunately not. We wish to know the universities we send scholars to. We believe a good dialogue with the universities will benefit both the universities and our scholars. The plan is to slightly expand the list of universities over the coming five years.

Q: CAN I APPLY IF I HAVE ALREADY STARTED THE MASTER OR PHD AT ONE OF THE SELECTED UNIVERSITIES?

A: It is best to apply to Aker Scholarship one year ahead of program start. We will then support you in the application process to the universities, which normally have deadlines in the period from November to March. You may also apply to Aker Scholarship in the fall you embark on your studies, but the award decision will first be made in early November. You must be prepared to cover all your expenses yourself should you not be awarded Aker Scholarship. Many programs allow admitted students to defer their entry. This might be an option for students not wishing to carry the risk of beginning their studies before having received an answer from Aker Scholarship.

Q: CAN I GET SUPPORT TO TAKE AN INTEGRATED MASTER AFTER HIGH SCHOOL?

A: No, you must finish a Bachelor summer 2019 at the very latest to be eligible to apply.
